The technology industry made headlines this week as Google enjoyed the public release of Google+ and Google Wallet, while Facebook announced changes to their platform—bringing innovation to how people interact and share their lives. Amidst this global recession, some companies have managed to grow in leaps and bounds, and many look toward Internet kings like Google and Facebook for inspiration.

However, those giants are not the only golden models of success in our economy. There are startups and companies leveraging healthcare and new media trends to change the landscape of business as we know it.

But how? Building a successful business in a stagnant economy is an issue that many companies are continuing to grapple with. Our own Peter J. Boni tackled that question in a recent VentureBeat article, featured in the Entrepreneur Corner, by offering three pieces of advice Safeguard gives to our partner companies in order to handle shaky times.

In other company news:

  • ThingWorx announced the availability of its Version 2.0 of its Connected Application Platform, offering updated features including Mashup Builder, enhanced collaboration elements, and an Extensibility Toolkit. The version reduces the time required to build and deploy new experiences, five times faster than traditional development platforms.

And don’t forget, you can still vote for student entrepreneurs in the elevator pitch competition! Both finalists from the NFTE Philadelphia Business Plan Competition need your support. You can see their videos and vote here: Benita’s Sofrito from Bianca Nieves and Vito Lawns from Viktor Vabishevich.

Stay tuned for more updates on our annual Investor Day event, scheduled for Oct. 4. Planning is underway as the big event grows nearer. Join us at The Yale Club of New York City as we provide the investor community an opportunity to hear from Safeguard and select partner companies.
